What if you can’t even imagine what it would really be like to live in Essence? What if the real you that has been covered up by some wound, some personality piece, is so different than your current reality that it’s like a fish trying to imagine what it’s like to breath air and walk on land? Some times the emergence of the real truth, the organic self, is just like cleaning a mirror and you simply say, smiling big, “oh, there you are!?” Like playing peek-a-boo. But sometimes, it’s more like, WOW, who knew that was even possible. I didn’t know I could do that, or be that way. Sometimes the emergence of the new or real is going to be completely outside of your current set of beliefs about yourself and the world. And for this to emerge, you have to be willing to let go of the how you currently think about or define yourself and be willing to allow the new to unfold.

Thank you for this note. I have been feeling like a new being–my real being–has been exposed in some way, and I don’t think it’s been hiding behind a wound like you put it, but long-held cultural beliefs and stereotypes. I think I’ve let myself be molded from the inside-out with superficial thought-patterns (when it comes to interacting), which has ultimately acted as a buffer against forming my own opinions based on true personal analysis. Those citizens living around me in Santa Cruz have helped me begin mindfulness. Puzzled comments like, “what are you saying?” when I pass a sly judgment and an offended, “Your welcome!” when I walk out the door without saying “thank you”. Now comes a period of great discomfort (particularly guilt), uncertain about my guiding principles when the costumes are thrown out. But I suppose it begins by paying extra attention to the “Essence” of you and not resisting its takeover.
I want to imagine living my true self day to day, finding my essence, whatever that may be.
